/dev/sdc1 is the name of the partition or device (can be checked in GParted in case you need to do the same with a different hardisk). It was probably read/write anyways, but this is just to double check. rw - this option mounts the drive as read/write.gid=1000 - this option makes the group with id 1000 the group owner of the drive. If you have more than one username on your system, run the command id and use the number after uid=. This is probably your username's id if you only have one username. uid=1000 - this option makes the user with id 1000 the owner of the drive.remount - remounts the drive over the same mount point with the same previous options.Try executing the following command in a terminal: sudo mount -o remount,uid=1000,gid=1000,rw /dev/sdc1 How can I change the owner and permission of this hard drive ? I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Wondering if this is an issue with Monterey since the older coms are not running that OS and are working fine.I have got an external hard disk TOSHIBA 1TB USB 3, the permission is always READ ONLY.įdisk -l (output) : Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytesĢ55 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976773168 sectors Not sure what to do as the internet isnt helping solve the problem. It also still works on older devices.Ĥ) The other drive is brand new and nothing is working for that one to mount as well.

( error 49153."ģ) I have run diagnoistics on the older drive and everything came back fine. Neither are working on the new ones.Ģ) I have looked in disk utility and I can see the drives but I cannot mount them. No matter what I do I can not get ANY exernal drive to mount on any of my new Macbooks running Monterey.ġ) I have downloaded the WD discovery and utility which is the program that has helped my older macbook and imac mount the drives. I also bought a brand new external drive (WD My Passport- which is suppoed to be compatable with macs) as well as have my old external drive (WD My Passport) that has been working on my old mackbook 15in and my even older iMac for years. My Passport Drives not working on brand new comp I have recently bought a brand 2 new Macbook Pro 14in and its running Monterey.
